Happy Thanksgiving! Sleep Well tonight!

Happy Thanksgiving! Since the pandemic began, my team and I have been practicing Wellness Wednesday! We are not ritualistic, but we try to stay mindful about caring for ourselves both mentally and physically whilst adjusting to the work from home posture.
As I was preparing to send my Happy Thanksgiving message to the team on this week's Wellness Wednesday, I decided to research how gratitude can affect wellness.

Here are a few of things that gratitude can do for wellness. 
  1. Gratitude can make you sleep better. Apparently, a grateful heart makes for sounder sleep. When you focus on things to be grateful for the cares of the world seemingly fade away allowing you to rest easy.

    Ways to be Strategic: Start your day or end your evening with writing down a few things you are grateful for!

  2. Gratitude improves relationships.  Saying “thank you” is not only good manners, but appreciating others acts of kindness can help you to win friends and influence people, according to a 2014 study published in Emotion. The study found that thanking a new acquaintance makes them more likely to seek an ongoing relationship.

    Ways to be Strategic: Send a thank-you note to someone that helped you with a project or acknowledge the contributions and it may lead to new opportunities.
      
  3. Gratitude improves health. It has shown that a grateful heart lends itself to a calm mind. This helps to maintain an optimum blood pressure, heart rate and a stronger immune system.

    Ways to be Strategic: Embrace a practice that involves both mental and physical activities such as meditation, dancing to music you love, taking ten deep breaths and saying one thing you are grateful for on the exhale.

  4. Gratitude boosts productivity. Did you know that productivity increases 51% when a supervisor says thank you and that 81% of people would stay at a job where they have a grateful boss.

    Ways to be Strategic: Catch people doing things right. Look for ways to encourage those who support you. 
 
So while you thought you were getting drowsy from the tryptophan in your turkey dinner, you may actually be full and rested from all the real thanksgiving (gratitude) that you’ve practiced during Thanksgiving.

No matter what, I hope you have enjoyed taking a break this thanksgiving. Whether you celebrate the holiday or not, I hope that you were able to find somethings to be grateful for!

Strategize or DIE

I am excited about the year ahead. Why? As someone who is always talking about strategy, I encourage you to not just think about it but to be about it. Now that doesn't mean that you go out and get busy. Busy is the enemy of accomplishing things. I encourage you to map out a strategy. A strategy will ensure that your actions allow you to get somewhere or deliver something.  I am excited about the year ahead because I have a strategy. How about you? Do you have a strategy? If not, don't let your great ideas die on the vine. Get a strategy.
